Show Me the Way

Show Me the Way

A Poem by barleygirl
"

loosely based on a song, see notes below . . .

"

I wanna dive for abalone and crack ‘em in my hands
bobbing the windswept surf and off to a wayward land.
Let the brine burn my face all tangled in kelp’s embrace
billion anchovy bubbles beckon my bottomless plunge
and it feels just fine to me.

Tidepool of anemones with wavy noodles to lure me in
endless galaxies of starfish are cavorting chin to chin.
I wanna wiggle with a squid wrapped in his inky arms
an eel slithers by throwing shade on coral’s charms
and it feels so real to me.

Otter, show me the way to stab through this wild blue
show me the way that transports me to you.

A seaweed bushwhack upon a mottled humpback
play me every sonar note in your sea soundtrack.
Leap toward the blue moon, crescent will be full soon
your frothy exhalations do soothe and festoon
and it feels warm-cool to me.

Wicked wild woosh, shark fin bids a mortal spin
promising a moon morsel, fizzing his serrated grin
but then a graceful tailspin of a daunting dolphin
gliding me away again much to the shark’s chagrin
and it feels like bliss to me.

Dolphin show me the way on beyond trespasses
beyond the burbling bamboozled masses.

This is quite an enchantment under the sea dance of descriptive scenery! I know of the Dixie Chicks but never listened to them but i can sense the musical rhythm in the words and verses here. You are stretching for the original imagery in this one and it is refreshing to read something not poetically typecast in terms of theme and description. I'll be sure to check out that song. 💛

I was taking in your posted picture of the beach. There are those sanitized kind of beaches and then there are those wild, unkempt yet really beautiful ones. This beach felt like the latter. Not a beach person myself but I enjoyed taking a dive with you in that frothing, whooshing, wicked sea with its mind-blowing universe of a myriad of stunning lifeforms. And under it all, the reader feels your desire to get wild with the sea, to be one with the winds and waves. That to a free spirit is perhaps the ultimate bliss of existence because the ocean itself is so symbolic as the cradle of life.

That coast sounds formidable! Thanks for the very interesting information🤗
today i have been contemplating life and how there are some who dive in head first and others who watch and ponder from the shore ... this poem made me think of the former and I am grateful of that.

dearest Margie... I am familiar with Kelp... it is like seaweed
found on the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia... it is a delicacy that New Brunswickers
eat like potato chips. I read that Kelp (seaweed) could be the Key to unlocking the cure to
Parkinsons Disease. I will listen to the song by the Dixie Chicks... "Cowboy Take Me Away"
when my Cowboy wakes up in the morning. I am 'burning the Midnight Oil as it is a bit after midnight
in Virginia on the east coast. Great poem, as always. Love and prayers, Pat

The description here is breathtaking and beautiful! It really makes me wanna swim! The imagery in this is one of a kind, I feel, and so beautiful entirely on its own, you don’t need a picture for your poems. Because you paint all the pictures on your own with your words, and this piece of art feels almost mystical! I’ll make sure to check out the song, and this is just one of my favorites you’ve done.

As usual, you've twisted up a gnarly knot of words. More beautiful thoughts which tickle the mind no other could find. Being a Nebraskan, I don't see the ocean very often, thanks for bringing me there.

Side note -still waiting for your Halloween offering. Can't wait to read it.

I know the “ Dixie Chicks” and love them! This is quite a musical sea journey, so much rhythm... and dancing movement. I love your sea characters and how you vividly to show us their characters. You’re setting yourself free in the ocean...”take me away” somewhere to your magical place, perhaps on the back of a dolphin! Beautiful Margie! Xo B

You are truly a woman of the sea.....you should be living in a Yellow Submarine! :) You describe the undersea world so vividly in this one, Margie. The rhyme and rhythm is perfect. Such a joy to read! Lydi**
