Super Gonorrhea

Super Gonorrhea

A Poem by barleygirl
"

if covid headlines aren't bad enuf . . .

"

Antibiotic overuse is a corona panacea
leading to the spread of super gonorrhea
while azithromycin brings no virus benefit
public panic pleads for anything to better it.

Cure-all cronies tout treatments so tangential
to workers eliminated for being non-essential
desperation doctrines more and more persistent
as bacterial infections grow antibiotic resistant.

Super gonorrhea sounds like a headline hoot
but underlying factors render this point moot
with mandatory dictates for keeping a distance
gonorrhea super bugs lack needed assistance.

Getting away from the serious undertone of your poem. It reminded me of a guy in my army days who was always known only by his Initials , that were VD. It was said that he also had a SIs Phyllis. Sorry about that, Margie.... memory plays some nasty tricks with me these day.

Oh! I am scared of all medical terminology these days. Good to read. I prefer homeopathy and ayurvedic combinations these days. Healthy living style is a must to avoid all these troubles

I’m an R.N. and you ain’t wrong and bravo on your word choices which always impresses me and the topic is new and something I have not come across. Now being a nurse you would think I would write about it but nope...when you live it you don’t want to put it in your pass time but that is not to say I don’t enjoy a good write about it

Oh yes Margie, the overuse of antibiotics. Some will rue the day. This poem is a warning for anyone contemplating sleeping around without protection. If covid don't get you then there's plenty of other nasties queing up to meet you. Love both the fun and serious side of these lines.

There is far more to this than a story of a venereal disease. Old people and their pills is certainly a worthy subject. There is too much dependence on meds ... both for the patient and for the doctor prescribing them. My late mother-in-law was a fine case in point, when she had a complaint her doc. would give her another scrip. Near the end she had approx. 30 different bottles on her bedside table.
The father-in-law took digitalis and met up with a friend who was also on it and he decided to try the other fellow's scrip to see how his was ... nearly killed himself.

Medications have become the fall-back for older people it seems and a lot of doctor's are only too happy to prescribe them.

This virus is wreaking havoc with the elderly in our area. Nursing & LTC homes are being hit hard ... maybe that's the plan ... that way the gov't won't need to pay out pensions to people who live too long.

Ha ha, you actually put out a poem entitled "super gonorrhea". I'm jealous. Managing to fit in azithromyosin is pretty impressive too. I love your vocabulary and command of the language. Even though our views are not likely tangential but rather orthogonal, your words bring me joy.

Thanks for writing this poem Margie....This was waiting to happen! Gonorrhea as an affliction sounded so 19th and mid-20th century, almost a Victorian disease because we had gained an upper hand on it but it seems that all the labour is being lost and we're going back to square one with the superbugs emerging one by one. They're building up resistance faster now. The entire system is to blame. Antibiotics being used as candy. So we must anticipate and prepare for more such horrors....
