Sunrise, Sunset

Sunrise, Sunset

A Poem by barleygirl
"

inspired by Pete's poem "Cognisance" . . .

"

Swarthy seagull pitches a flippant fit
glib taunts hurled by edgy wingtips
keow . . . mew . . . keow . . . hahaha
mated masts frame his harbor frolic
morning stopover, a pithy once-over
to decode this cryptic sunrise poet.

Pompous puffins and laconic otters
decorate the sunset end of this day
taking cavalier cormorants in stride
a tempestuous cliffhanging cynic
ponders two sun-dappled pelicans
rocktop bopping to a surfer’s beat.

Click on thumbnail for a larger view of Boston Harbor, near where Pete does some of his seagull gazing with a sunrise motif. Conversely, a cliffhanging cynic (me) catches sunsets south of Monterey Bay, faraway on the opposite coast. Photo by Josh Stewart taken in Florida.

A beautiful view of seagulls flying in the sunrise sky framing a golden sea. It's a spiritual experience gazing at them, decoding their cryptic sunrise poetry! Love how animated your words feel, capturing the energy and swirling activity out there. Clicked on the thumbnail and that's such a stunning view! That sunset looks ethereal too.

You guys really brought me back, you and Pete.
I spent time in Boston Harbor, eating sashimi at a Japanese restaurant on the pier.
Beautiful place....your poem sends me back there...and your title reminds me
of the Association song..."the time it is today"

dearest Margie... we have lived in this special climate in Fredericksburg, Virginia for thirty years. Until we experienced this Pandemic... the Seagulls were present in groups unbelievable ... and we spent many hours leaving light bits of bread for the Seagulls in colder inclement weather. Now we rarely see them in all their Beauty. Seagulls are exceptionally trusting and appreciative. I fear this Pandemic has affected them in a sad and melancholy Shakespearean play that needs a Curtain Call of Prayers of Healing. tenderly, Pat x

I love your "tree house" description! Being amongst the trees is a glorious way to live!
From the first flush of the day to its closing hour, you have captured the sights, sounds and appealing personality of the harbor.
