Detonate the Firmament

Detonate the Firmament

A Poem by barleygirl
"

no rain, but can't beat toasty winter afternoons . . .

"

Just an early spattering of shy raindrops
January plows drought over my hilltops
a few misty sprinkles since last spring
not likely to green up any living thing.

Reign of August was a brutal fire season
million-acre blazes razed beyond reason
only an inch and a half of rain since then
and we’ll be seeing brutal all over again.

Native rain-dance gypsy, ole Kokopelli
slipshod soothsayer has no fire in his belly
detonate the firmament and let it downpour
replenish empty reservoirs from shore to shore.

Watering my garden is a mid-winter pain
wondering how long till my well is a drain
wildlife comes close, drinking from the crick
deer scrubs my garden fence and drops a tick.

I spend every afternoon in prayerful repose
after merrily ditching all my pesky clothes
in a pious sprawl I volley thanks to The Man
despite our lack of rain, I’ve got a toasty tan.

I had to drive 15 miles through whiteout conditions yesterday, I guess I'll take that over having a "fire season". Though it's hard to weigh that against the ability to bask naked in January. Needless to say, my junk does not have a tan this time of year.

This is the rosy demeanor for which I once wrote.
Languished and frazzled one can definitely emote
The ease of reading these well-defined lines
makes the cooking of skin seem mighty fine

While kaleidoscope detail and metaphor tell your tale well
I also find comfort that you acknowledge the impending hell
Letting the reader wander within their own cells

Good write and happy suntanning!

Reading of rain today makes me long for warmer days, its deep winter here and that sun holds no warmth right now. You have me daydreaming of greens and splashes of colour and a need to work in the garden.

I love this poem, Margie! I'm not used to a "a brutal fire season" down in Georgia, except maybe during the summer, when it gets a little over a hundred degrees. But I really enjoyed your whimsical way of saying, "I sunbathe naked, b*****s, deal with it, my tan is a MILLION times better than yours" lol.

I love the title and am jealous I did not think of it first. It feels like our whole existence is a dry and parched August.

After that brutal fire season, rain dance is what you'd love to do. You make rain sound so musical and so sating with these rich lines! The anticipation is felt deliciously. The toasty tan too feels like a nice tradeoff for the lack of sumptuous showers! There's always something in life to be grateful for!

well at least you did get a tan.
But I hope you do get some rain...you need green....

this poem is more than meteorological ....
we have barren periods without love...and we need the rains of romance to pour down on us once in awhile just to moisten the emotions a bit...get some regrowth.
Love the artwork...the cat doesn't enjoy the rain much...they do hate getting wet.
