Broadway

Broadway

A Poem by Henry Martinez

 Who's to say

what's forward, backward

whether we're reversing forward

or advancing backwards.

Who's to say,

what's right, what's wrong.

The ultimate truth, the perfect crime

or if this is really a rhyme.

Cars on Broadway

roll uptown and downtown

to notown and outta town

or maybe the reverse.

We set standards

to maintain sanity

preserve integrity

the first defenses to our demise.

All I see, a few hundred yards

or the wall in front of me

we are limited by perspective

and that matters the world to me.

Humans born born with limits

and yet we're limitless

a paradox

for our own safety.
