Arlington

Arlington National Cemetery overlooking the Potomac River across from Washington D.C., is home to the nation's fallen men and women who have served their grateful nation. Inspired by my friend Sirrah.

There is a silence midst this hallowed landscape of stone and wood,

where few echoes resound among these great heroes who once stood.

Not the whisper of the wind or the cry of their loves forlorn,

will breach that stunning silence as sorrow rises with the morn.

Author's Note

I was inspired to write this short poem by my friend Sirrah. She wrote a poem called, "Voice in the Wood," below:

Voice keeps time even in the silence of the wood.
But, does it matter when no one is listening
to the softest whisper or to the loudest scream
for joy, loneliness, sorrow, or pain surrounding?

Many thanks to her for her inspiration. And of course, peace be to those fallen.
