Crushed

Crushed

A Poem by Cat Tee
"

More like oranges

"

I don’t think a crush is called a crush because it feels like a 1 ton anvil just

crushed your whole body with feels. That’s too typical of a definition.

I think a crush is called a crush because it’s kind of unexpected,

like when you accidently crush the orange your mom packed you that one third grade lunch.

Citrus sparks spurt everywhere, seeping into your bag, sopping onto your sleeves as you try to do damage control.

But, even as the initial spark goes away, sometimes you brush against your backpack zipper to feel a slight sticky roughness, or the shirt sleeve still reeks of oranges a little bit;

a crush is an

unexpected thing that never really just goes away.

You use citrus fruit as an example to bring a freshness to an overly-used word. The way that you show this surprise lingering is particularly effective.

I would say this is a prose poem and therefore I am going to subscribe to you. I am always looking for more prose poetry.

"whole body with feels" seems to be a typo?
