On a Summer Day

On a Summer Day

A Poem by Maurice

The earth basks
In the summer sun;
Seated at sidewalk cafés
Are people resting momentarily
From the frenzy
While on the sidewalk
Lies somebody
Forgotten,
Maybe alive
But no one cares.

Like Serial Kisser said, this is a reality. I can't admit to being a w***e, but I see what Sharon is saying, too. I enjoyed the peacefully beginning and sudden drop-off, it gets attention.

We are country of selfish, self-serving w****s. We best get to it before more people die because of indifference "As long as I've got mine, everything is fine". Sounds like are country doesn't it??

Yes. On those pretty days when the coffee is just right and the sun is shining warm on the face and beauty surrounds us....there is someone nearby suffering and cursing that same sun we are so comforted by....life is strange. But I feel a part of me scream agony every time I see someone else hurting....we are all connected. If they suffer...I suffer. I wish I could help them all. I can't. But maybe a few. Great poem. It tugs at the sleeve of the soul and points to reality.

Your opening lines suggest like a open heart ready to face a new day toward the end it goes without saying that the world forgot someone. This is sad but well expressed.

the division comes seemingly out of nowhere~ you relax the reader into a sublime ease like a cool painting on the very wall of one of those cafes and then the eye shifts for a second and shifts quickly away from what most of humanity give little more thought to then a spot~ your poetic construction is fluid~ ease in relating~ powerfully brings across the poignancy through quick fire brevity~ excellent~

I picture this scene taking place in a modern city, but just as easily can see it on some ancient street corner as well. To mankind's shame, there has always been those with and those without. Some of us care about our fellow human being while others care only about their wallets. A day of reckoning will surely come.
