Walking Through the Midnight Streets

Laughing Maniacally

at the World We're In

Cars Sleep

Under Monstrous Trees

Frightful Faces

Black and Green

Dim Lights

Paint the Night

Amber Bricks

and Golden Streets

Lying Down

on the Ground

Sheltered by

a Friendly Tree

Light Bouncing

Rustling Leaves

Hundreds Thousands

Only One

Closing Eyes

Napping Time

Head Ensonced in

Soft Arms

Cool Earth

Getting Up

Walking Round

Talking With a Friend

Bout Life

and Stuff

In Front of Me

I Stop and See

an Ugly Gray Cube

a Tiny Office Building

with Tiny Office Things

I Reach Down

and Pinch the Collar

of a Tiny Office Person

I Lift Him High

Show Him

the Sky

the Stars

the Air

the Trees

"Don't You Want

to Come Explore

the World Outside?"

I Ask

But the Little Office Person

Shakes His Little Head

He's Getting Nervous

There's a Meeting

in Five

He Really Must Go

So I Sigh

and Put Him Down

in the Ugly Little Building

Where He Spends

His Life

Wow, this was fascinating. The beginning hooked me in with the wonderful imagery, but the ending blew me out of the water. I love the statement, we are letting our jobs become our identities, no longer taking the time to go outside and marvel at the miraculous universe that surrounds us.
I also liked that there were monstrous trees and then a friendly one. Made me think the former may not even be trees at all.
