Little Things, Big Things

Little Things, Big Things

A Poem by bigfootprint
"

Why not us? We have brain and gumption to close our lids, let open mind see

"
We read how some philosopher saw
In his dim room lit by candelabra,
His eyes aglaze and mind entranced,
His ideas grow, divinely enhanced.

Einstein learned how to sleep-travel,
To watch space-time mysteries unravel.
Twixt swirling galaxies and arcing suns,
Into endless voids that spark and stun.

Why not us? We have brain and gumption
To close our lids, let open mind see
Astounding marvels of mountain and sea,
How Earth reels under over-consumption.

Still we doubt our ability and vision,
Protest ultimates with mortal derision.
God's laws imbue all life and creation
With sweeping beauty to instill elation.

Each of us carries a God-given spark
That helps us achieve some lofty mark,
To prove our worth. Our souls delight
When we share our talents and insight.

Great minds have greater duty to lead
The world in work, faith and humility.
We must plow the fields of own ability
And trust our bounty to faith-sown seed.

I vow now when I lay me down to sleep
To think pure thoughts of obligation,
How faith fosters love and inspiration.
I will beg God's grace, my soul to keep.

Without divine inspiration, most of us would be flightless birds, dodos who scratch and prune and stare at the sky, afraid to trust our brainpower and give wing to our minds.
