That Hurts

That Hurts

A Poem by Footprints al carbon
"

Real intention comes from understanding.

"
To begin to write something that hurts,
you first must make a choice,
do you wish to give flight to harm,
or does your wish give harm in flight?

A type of pain that runs from fear,
or in courage that would stand fast,
choose your words to infect the ear,
when they arrive they're sure to last.

So weigh the cause and the effect,
that your message seeks to find,
and as you write the blood will flow,
just like in the hearer's mind.

Will you mark your tone with truth?
That cuts between the jointed bone,
and causes pain within the soul,
to say what can't be left alone.

Or will your wounds infected now,
give poison for your venomous bite?
Disturbing every soul enraged,
that would slay the egotist's might.

Very well-written warning to writers to deeply consider the effect that words have, once they are unleashed into the world at large. Not an admonition I think, but a call to take some responsibility and write with compassion. Beautiful wordage, rhyme, flow and quite clinical imagery! Thought-provoking...

This is genius...describes the scalpel that cuts into the cyst of the pain.

Writing something that hurts give the writer power in a way. Responsibility/the intention lays in the hands of the writer to bring forth an encouraging pain or a pain to bring the spirit down. This writing puts you in that perspective. I enjoyed it for sure! Thanks!
