From the Heart; To a Lost Love

From the Heart; To a Lost Love

A Poem by Brenda Sue
"

A Letter left at a tombstone in a grave yard.

"

My love,

It's hard to comprehend
where the years have gone.
Two days after your body died,
I could hardly stand the thought
that it had been so long since
we had spoken with each other.

Now I hear you in my head,
but lately not as often.
I miss that and I miss you.
I can only hope that my heart
and mind remain transparent to you.

There is nothing I won't share,
either in my pride or shame
happiness or sorrow.

We always were and are a team.
This thing we are doing now
Is the hardest thing we have attempted.

We will succeed in the end.
I love you with all my heart, Sweetheart.

That says it all. It touches on many things I have felt when loved ones die, and for me, also, one of them was a spouse. It's a lovely letter you left at the tombstone, and I use the word "lovely" on purpose, because of all the love in it. Your wish that your heart and thougts remain "transparent" is a wonderful image; to me it means 'spirit,' everlasting. I'm glad, as your bio says, you are returning to writing. I hope you keep it up!

Oooohhh...such a stab of painful emotions hit me. Not for me, but to feel what my mother is going through having lost my dad a month ago. Sorrowful. Thanks for entering this poem in the Missing Him, Missing Her contest.

brenda, one can only fell the heartbreak and sympathize for the loss expressed with sincere dedication,
to experience grief, such magnitude really draws the soul to tears, one can feel your words flow from the heart, accentuated only by the love which you gracefully share through your words, this is beautifully rendered, like falling leaves imagery, endearing emotions leave the reader immensely touched, loved this.

This ability to share, this liberty that one enjoys in a relationship transcends a lifetime. Its beautiful.God bless you.Sad are those who have to let go of this liberty ,this transparency in a lifetime.

This is marvelous.
The loss, the pain, the hope and the struggle to keep the dead alive within and love forever is such a perfect ethereal love.
Love is timeless.

We always were and are a team.
This thing we are doing now
Is the hardest thing we have attempted.

The best lines i suppose. I absolutely adore the way you have written this line 'the hardest thing we have attempted.'.

PERFECT. (Even given a choice, i would not like a change a single thing about it)

These two stanzas are outstanding...
so open-souled ...I love the desire to stay connected from opposite sides of the grave

"Now I hear you in my head,
but lately not as often.
I miss that and I miss you.
I can only hope that my heart
and mind remain transparent to you.

There is nothing I won't share,
either in my pride or shame
happiness or sorrow."

and..... what else could be so complete

Blesssssssssss

Brenda this is one of your best...and if you ever want to put your writings about grief together in a book or collection, this is one of the ones you should definitely use. Its beautifully written and just so heartfelt. There is a gentleness here as if you are speaking to him, which in fact you are.

The last two stanza just really are gorgeous and glorious -

"We always were and are a team.
This thing we are doing now
Is the hardest thing we have attempted.

We will succeed in the end.
I love you with all my heart, Sweetheart."
