A Poem by Nayan

Where the sky -

            Meets the sea,

And the land -

            Leaves the sight,

The mountains -

            Look hazy and high,

That is very far…

            But, that’s the horizon!

Where the bird little, aspires -

            Knowing just how to fly!

And the fish child, dreams -

Knowing not, the path’s deep pits!

The calf, thinks to graze -

            Over those mystics mounts!

That is very far…

            But, that’s the horizon!

Can a tree, grow back again -

After being cut by the swivel of death?

Can a man, rise up again -

After being trampled by the hammer of fate?

If not did they sight -

            Those hazy high hills?

Though that is very far…

            But, that’s the horizon!

The birds do dance -

When they fly in the air,

For the happiness of the flight -

Is far greater than the fear of crash!

The shepherd boy laughs, as he strives -

            With his herd of sheep,

For the fear of unknown, can’t diminish

            The joy of search!

When the having turns scarce,

            And need (be)comes prime -

Invention initiates,

As dreams lead new bright paths!

Pleasure of discovery alone,

            When drives his search -

Not far, the land where the sun rises,

            As ahead does he march!

When one day, one man -

Struggled and fear did he tame,

And lighting away the darkness,

            As he touched the flame!

Streaks of light, that -

            Trails from the horizon -

Will forever inspire,

            Youths to follow on…
