Love Like No Other

Love Like No Other

A Poem by Drako

Love is sometimes elusive
Sometimes fleeting, maybe even temporary
Romantic love is most often a source of pain
But this is not the love I write about here

The love I feel here is unending
Nothing done by this one can kill that
It's the love of a parent for a child not their own

I have not been blessed with a living child of my own
But the Powers That Be have blessed me with the children of others
The first of which is so important her name is tattooed over my heart

From the moment I first saw those light colored eyes
This child stole my heart like no other
And has been placed above all others

The greatest pain I feel is a disconnect with this child
This little one I've helped raise seems lost to me now
And the pain is too much to bear

For so long I've had a child attached to my hip
or her hand in my hand
As I moved throughout the world

Now I've had that yanked away from me
But i need her to know this truth
This one inescapable piece of pure honesty

There is no way to replace that love
From near or far, my feelings are always the same
If I am needed, I'm always around for you

Even though circumstances have kept us apart,
your place remains within my heart
Though you are not my child by blood
In my heart my child you remain
