Incurable

Incurable

A Poem by Brandon Mathis

Maybe I should have held you closer

Black smoke covers my soul

I couldn’t bring you back to life

I break as your eyes close

A life that is known

But I will never hold

It always hurts

To know that you are my whole world

I always break

From the memories of that day

To know that you aren’t there

For my love for you to share

I’m just alone enough

To know I hurt so much

I’m living in this hell

As I feed on myself

A shadow that can’t be found

As my eyes drown

I won’t give in to my shame

Another broken heart lays to blame

As life calls my name

I won’t walk away

I just can’t fade

To this incurable pain

What was that word you said?

An uncontrollable urge to want me dead

You don’t think I am a man

Then you will never understand

A shill goes up your spine

I guess you believe your own lies

Well I’m going to watch

As your lonely truth dies
