Prologue

 

Out in the Rocky Mountains there live the most beautiful creatures that has walked the earth. They are Mustangs. Graceful and elegant they maneuver there way through the hot summer days, and cold winter nights. On the cold, hard ground there lay a mare. Cold and alone the herd had abandoned her because of a terrible accident; in which she became lame. She lay, dying; however, using her last strength to get her new foal out into the world. All of the sudden a loud shrill whinny broke the heavy panting of the mare. Her foal was born. The earth now had a beautiful little filly; bay and chestnut the little girl lay still on the ground while her mother used up her last bit of life and strength to lick her new-born baby clean. The filly snuggled closer to her mother as a cold, harsh wind broke through the winter’s night. As they lay there the little filly had no idea that her mother was no longer with her.

As a critical comment, if you had the mare lame in two legs (broken by an accident) it would make more sense why the herd would have left her. There needs to be a better explanation, rather than the herd simply leaving because she is pregnant. If she is sick (which seems implied) it would be a good idea to let the reader know this. In the first sentence it should be 'Creatures' not 'creature'
