A Poem by Brenda Woods
"

500 prompt challenge - #1

"
my body is so small next to yours
curled in the curve of your side
like a child, clinging to your warmth
oh love, aren't we a tragedy?

i have been bruised too many times
and i have hurt too many people
been left cold too many times
yearning to find a home

you have broken too many hearts
and lost too much of yours
left with a hollow ache in your heart
yearning to not feel alone

we are parasites
draining the lives of others
bloodstained hands
soiled sheets

how long until we drain each other?
we clutch close, we feed
creatures consumed with need
and we sing, broken songs
whispered lullabies
this is the closest to love

and they say they pray for us
lonely monsters, entangled
slowly killing ourselves

The intricate details surrounding these characters were well written! I love the deep, sentimental emotions capturing the love and sorrow of these people. Well done!
