The Corner

The Corner

A Poem by John B. Bolling
"

Sometimes we let the worst events in life define who we are and choose for us who we become. This is a reflection on one such event in my life.

"

Where you crossed that road

That typical suburban street

Now everywhere you go

The memory plays on repeat

It was shortly after three

That encounter sealed your fate

Now everyone believes

You are a city in a sorry state

As the time elapses

Memories never wither

Try filling the gaps

The wounds left you bitter

Where you gave up the ghost

Disassociated the event

Found your soul a new host

Prayed for the power to repent

It was twenty after three

When who you were disappeared

Now all who knew you see

The person you were is not here

As the time lingers

The days slowly grow long

But even strangers

Must know that you are gone

Even if the scars remain

Even if your body feels pain

Real or imagined

Crazy or sane

You will never be the same again
