Small People

Small People

A Poem by Bri

A drop of water
In a sea of people;
That's all we are.
One of billions
Each quite anonymous;
How insignificant we are.
Call to mind
Our entire universe;
How very small we are.
So small, in fact
Of course we cannot
Leave a lasting impact.

It's comforting,
In a way
Just to think.
Small people can't really
Call disaster's brink.
Because people leave memories
And memories fade.
So the wrong we cause
Can be washed away.

Or is it frustrating, possibly?
You tell me.
That the good we do
May never be seen.
And no matter how much
One may deserve fame.
The majority surely
Will never know his name.

But maybe all that
Is just a false notion.
It takes one drop
To set the sea in motion.
There are so many of us
Surely for one there is another.
But who do we rely on?
We rely on each other.

we do rely on each other...we are all just a drop...and one thing that scares me...imagine our generation and how we have appreciated literary works of art...we will be leaving our poetry behind...but who will read it? so many of the really young people? will they be interested? or just be too busy texting their friends "where u at?"

i hope our lives have meaning... i know this poem has meaning for me.

Great, reassuring message in this - don't fret so much and rely on each other. Well written and meaningful!
