Battlefield

Battlefield

A Poem by Colleen C Dunphy
"

I wrote this with the song "Love is a battefield" going through my head...

"

Preparing for battle

The walls going up

The armor is on

My weapons are readied

I am the warrior

Preparing to get hurt

Trying to fortify the defenses

Lessen the pain

Readying the negotiations

Preparing to be let down

But willing the battle on

Living for this

Knowing that only when one is close enough to get hurt

They are close enough to love

Yet, I am afraid

Making that wall taller

Not sure I am ready for the pain

I don't want to hurt her either

The battle is never easy

The walls a little higher every time

Never knowing how much blood and tears will be shed.

Are you ready to join me in battle?

I love the way this has a double meaning... it can mean preparing for war, but to me it also means preparing to fall in love for that is a battle all on its own.

Wonderful write

Those are tight lines...
Hey, don't forget to build a moat.

Knowing that only when one is close enough to get hurt
They are close enough to love -- PERFECTLY WRITTEN.

Great job.
