Evening Peace

Evening Peace

A Poem by Phil Sanders
"

Thoughts at the end of the day ....

"
The evening drifts into the night
Subtle changes welcoming the approaching gloom
Shadows of day become the shades of night
Apprehensive …… then emboldened as the moon appears
The tree’s ghostly appearance sharpened by the moonlight
As the gentle breeze sways it’s branches to and fro
Footsteps ring out with a clarity not heard in the daytime
Laughter and amiable sounds float in the distance
The night can bring fear and peace
As the silence settles like a blanket on the world

A quiet gentle write that carries the scene clearly and unbroken to your readers. You captured the mystique and mystery of the shades of night and the clarity of silence to clear footfalls may be heard from far away.

A peaceful and calming poem.

Thank you

As the silence settles like a blanket on the world

I'm reading this exactly as that happens, night is falling and your words are the perfect accompaniment. Lovely.

Wow, I found this piece shortly after posting my poem depicting my fear of the night. I read it and reread it and I honestly think that it helped to put things into perspective for me. The line "The night can bring fear and peace" made me sit back and think about how I really feel as the day comes to a close. I realized that the night should be viewed as a "blanket on the world" instead of just the end of another day and the beginning of a dark journey towards morning. Thank you for presenting this in a new light for me. I look forward to facing tonight with a gentler perspective. ~Lorna Lee

I love this line because I love the silence of night time, it is like no other silence. Beautiful writing, Phil. :+)

I am such the night owl...love the sounds and the mystique of the night. Sounds become clearer and more defined through the senses in the still of night...Beautiful!
Much serenity felt in this poem!

I've always loved the night.
To those who know me, its where I am. Outside, drinking in the darkness.
I always feel sadness, bereft, when the winter comes. Only because I lose the crickets. ~chuckling~
Nothing like a summer sing-song fest of crickets. Yum.
This is lovely. It made me smile. Made me appreciate the night even more than I already have and do.
Thank you for sharing this with me. Thank you.
Brava!

Phil, this one might be my favorite of yours so far! So visual, so descriptive, it feels like each word was carefully chosen to paint an exquisite picture in the reader's mind. I especially liked how you described the light and dark of night so to speak, peaceful and yet can be fearful - EXACTLY what night is like to me. Great poem, a very enjoyable read!
