She

She

A Poem by Dotty Thompson

Speaks in tongues like the forlorn
She howls at the sun
Moans at night like the very storm
That turns down the numb

She’s a smile plastered over
Like a bandaid on a wound
She’s more island, than lover
Takes solace in being marooned

She’s a wall like a fortress
She’s a queen of the damned
But behind the distress
There’s a child, longs to mend

The poem is well written and explains a woman's life over time. Going from the aches and pains to the joyous times. How she fights her inner demons but helps others anyways. How she is guarded against others, but messes up all the time and doesn't have the best luck. In the end, however, she is still a child at heart and just wants to keep the innocence from her youth. Very well done!

Ya know - so many, many people say they WANT to help other people without a clue of how emotionally wearing caring actually is. Bonding only to say goodbye - and THAT only if you actually get the chance. Pausing to hold a hand when no one else can take the time. Dealing with the hurt and injustice of it. And ya can't cry, ya can't cry, ya can't ...cry... as the tears leak out because YOU hurt too.

Children get do-overs... and we deal with the tears of our nows as only we can. A good poem.

I'm wondering what. " she's more island, than lover," means? Sorry to be abrupt, but I like this write. I just don't understand that line. I'm not being critical I just wanna know.

The rest is a testament to women. That is cool!

She writes of her and of you and me. I feel the essence of so much familiar here. It is almost like my coat hanging on the rack...Oh wait I have my coat on...but Ive wore yours before. I am going into the next room to see if there is yet more connection! The only hiccup i had here was ...moans at the night like every storm? very seems misplaced.

Its funny when we peel back our layers there is this child within, however some of us grow into onions and make us cry and others make us want to live alone.

Dotty you are always welcome.😀
i know a "she" who fits this poem perfectly...she wants to get out, be free, have a chance to be happy...and yet she dwells in her own darkness almost with a smile...like she just doesn't want to leave it...like it is home.
