I’d drive all night

I’d drive all night

A Poem by Dot

The miles I put between us
Seemed so ready in their day
You never seemed to fuss
If I stayed or if I strayed

I felt your silence burn me
Took it to mean you didnt care
But if you asked me to return
I’d drive all night to get there

Time won’t stop for games
And I’m not getting any younger
Life’s too short for blame
But don’t you drag this any longer

But if you asked me to return
I’d drive all night to get there
To see that old familiar yearning
Give you warmth in my repairing

That's always been the thing... we get wiser but not younger. Smarter but also dumber.

There comes a point in time where chasing things no longer offers more than it costs. I like to smoke grass and listen to the pixies and/or sublime. ("what i got")

Guess sadness can drive us to all sorts of feelings, efforts, desperation You use language so very well, an adamant voice but - gently phrased.

Sounds like a familiar song. Nice poem:)

So many of us have been there on that drive that can be liberating or excruciating depending. Music and the speed of the highway. Grab the keys and salute with a middle finger. The content makes me reminisce! Nice work!

I enjoyed reading this. It’s a shame when someone who we love doesn’t appreciate our love, the silence becomes unbearable. One doesn’t know whether to stay or leave, but the love always overpowers us and we end up “driving all night” to get where they are. Kudos.

I really like this...desiring to put the past behind and start over fresh....it's ashamed many can't do that...great poem!

I revisited... good words, true as well. I hope you are finding it easier to express your thoughts - they will make this world a better place.

This is very sweet! I love the loyalty and devotion shown. This is too rare.

It's said some loves never die. That's what I read in your poem. Despite what's happened in the span of miles and emotions, love remains. It's what we wake for, and what we'd drive all night for, even if for one night. So much emotion and humility in a few well-crafted lines.
