I’d drive all night

I’d drive all night

A Poem by Dotty Thompson

The miles I put between us
Seemed so ready in their day
You never seemed to fuss
If I stayed or if I strayed

I felt your silence burn me
Took it to mean you didnt care
But if you asked me to return
I’d drive all night to get there

Time won’t stop for games
And I’m not getting any younger
Life’s too short for blame
But don’t you drag this any longer

But if you asked me to return
I’d drive all night to get there
To see that old familiar yearning
Give you warmth in my repairing

This is very sweet! I love the loyalty and devotion shown. This is too rare.

It's said some loves never die. That's what I read in your poem. Despite what's happened in the span of miles and emotions, love remains. It's what we wake for, and what we'd drive all night for, even if for one night. So much emotion and humility in a few well-crafted lines.

Taken for granted and even let go... takes two "working" to keep togetherness and desire alive and the memories of what you thought you had take so damn long to fadw.

Silence is not always golden and when it becomes a wall of silence, it feels like rejection. Your write portrays a willingness of trying to understand but also reflects the emotional distress of no reciprocation! A sad but creative piece of writing - well done ... :-)

Tender and sweet. "If you asked me to return" there's so much behind this line. Love this.

This is so poignant. Sometimes our love isn't appreciated and its' time to move on. Other times
its' worth the extra effort to try again.

Take care - Dave
