Opening paths you’d never see

A writer must be alive

Full of passion, emotion, and faith

A writer must be a slave

Living to perfect their art

A writer must be inspired

Bringing life to the simplest things

A writer must be adaptable

Roaring like a lion, yet tame as a kitten

A writer must be spontaneous

Able to pounce on a thought at a moments notice

A writer must be everything

Able to draw forth whatever comes to mind

A writer must be nothing

Able to pour empty their soul onto paper

A writer must be manipulative

Forcing you to weep, to cry, to laugh, to dream

Random and on the spot. I just took a thought and went with it. Therefore, its not meant to be a perfect poem. It just is. :)

This is just lovely, and true indeed! A writer is everything from dreamer to realist. Although it is random and on the spot as you've mentioned, however, I see it's more wonderful than being just random. Very very well written, and well thought.

Love this poem! Have similar poem called "Dreamer inside" which concentrates more on the urge to write. Somehow to characterize what you see writer should be (or is) is a "have to" for all of us. I especially like how you make this as a list with explanations and how it isn't ended, so that others can continue in their minds.
