My Son

My Son

A Poem by A.Lee

My Son

You didn’t grow inside of me

I wasn’t there when you were born

But my heart has attached itself to yours

And my love for you has been sworn

I’ve watched you grow from baby to boy

Falling more in love every day

Those big and beautiful, golden eyes

Easily getting your way

You may not have my lips or nose

You may not have my smile

But I see you watch me all the day

Absorbing my quirks all the while

I love you no matter what you do

No matter where you choose to go

You walked right in and captured my heart

Just how much you’ll never know

People may say that we’re not the same

Our kinship has been said and done

But you called me ‘Mommy’ of your own accord

And you’ll always be my son

~for Seth~

This has made me happy, for a little while. Such a sweet sentiment. You could this boy before child protective services could ruin him. Bless you for calling this child yours.

Wow this is beautiful. One of my best friends is adopted, and the way she interacts with the family just shows how much they all love each other. You really put yourself into this poem, and its quite evident. Great work mam

This is very beautiful. Not only your description of your son himself or of the way he's come into being whom he is but the way you described him as being much more to you than anyone else. This is very special, something he'll treasure always. Thanks again for sharing.

Beautiful.
You know I had a very bad experience with adoption - something I won't bore you with and because of that I have always felt hesitant with all the hype of celebrity adoption etc etc. And yet as a Christian, the premise of being adopted into God's kingdome and being beloved is something I don't want to let go. I want to know that we are capable of the love you have so beautifully expressed above. Let that inspiration continue within, write it down and share it with all of us jaded human beings. We need to be reassured that a child is loved.

To be a mother…..
Is an attitude….
Delivery does not give birth to maternity….

I love this! The way you express the way you feel about your son in this piece shows what a great mom you are. I like that in the beginning you express to us that he is not your biological child but you never refer to him as your adopted son. I really like how throughout this whole piece he is simply YOUR son! Great poem! :)
