Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis

A Poem by A.Lee

I am a tiny, ugly, nothing
Each day is just another fight
Trying not to be consumed
By all the pain and hurt of life

I'm facing millions of new battles
Each one stronger than myself
It's hopeless to think I'll overcome
They should have trusted someone else

Soon enough they'll come to see
I'm nothing but a big mistake
There's no way I'll reach the top
I die with every step I take

So I am giving up for good
Wrap myself tight in a safe cocoon
Where nothing bad can ever reach me
I've succumbed to this fateful gloom

But you keep calling from the outside
Begging me to rise again
Your voice infiltrates my enclosure
Why won't you let me just give in?

But soon your prodding gets to me
And with a sigh, I do oblige
But if I fall again (and I will)
Then you can kiss it all good-bye

I built my prison all too well
I have to fight just to escape
But as I finally do emerge
A brand new me starts to take shape

I'm startled as I start to glow
Testing new wings colored bright
As I take off, I hear you whisper
"See, I just knew someday she'd fly!"

I like the way this poem starts out gloomy and ends with a new beginning, a poem of hope in the dark times. I have had dark times and I remember how it felt so safe to stay behind my walls to heal and how difficult it is to emerge out into the world again. Your poem brings memories to me and I feel in your poem a hope for the future. Thank you for sharing.

I love the opening seeing how it sets the stage for everything and it progresses on in natural fashion. Its a pretty cool piece of work. Rory should feel lucky and proud. Inspiring a writer is a really amazing thing to do intentionally or unintentionally.

It's pretty dark but I love it. Very soulful to me, of course. I understand the poem. I know how it feels to stay locked up in a place to be safe, as I did that once as a kid. BU sometimes we just have to do something about it. We're never going to be trapped forever

This is a really nice poem. I think many people can relate to it. A lot of people need to show potential. And I like the way you used the metaphor to explain it. I think this was a perfect poem. Thanks for sharing. :)

Well I do think you have a lot of potential, your poems are all very nice as they have a clear theme and are interesting to read. Most of my poems are strange and not quite clear what is going on lol. You have what message you want to send out in your head, and you write it. Thanks for sharing this!

I like this poem, very interesting and the ending was inspiring. I do want to point out that in the second stanza, third line, your "its" should be "it's". Other than that, the flow and rhythm was nice and the content was easy to relate to. Well done.

Yes….
We need somebody’s help to elevate our self…
To overcome our feeling of inadequacy….
Though you fought just to escape….
Its good that you did it….
you fought..

A very rare theme….
Beautiful….

This poem really does reach out to me. Your general style of portraying yourself or your life as an aspect of nature is once again pronounced. Likening oneself to a butterfly is a very common metaphor, and yet you have managed to give it a new twist. Your author's note adds more to this. We all reach our cocoons in life, it is an inevitable stage. Unfortunately, unlike the butterfly, we are not always destined to break free. Yet, like the butterfly, our lives as one are often short lived-- and so we begin the cycle again. I hope you manage to break free of your cocoon, and be one of the lucky ones that do enjoy an extended butterfly life.
