secrets

secrets

A Poem by Anonymous 79

i've been carrying secrets
closer than my skin
and all the secrets
won't let you in

she said this, he said that
please don't tell anyone
you didn't hear this from me
please don't tell anyone

one time I was at a friend's house
seventh grade
secrets poured out of that house
like rain
never told
a single soul
because what would I say?
never wanted your secrets but I keep them anyway

i've been carrying secrets
closer than my skin
and all the secrets
won't let you in

i don't want to know that
but i won't tell anyone
don't you hear my silent plea
no more secrets, i'm done

do you know how I feel about
everything?
I find myself disagreeing about
... everything
my secret is my thoughts
trapped in a box
because how do I argue?
never wanted my secrets but I can't stop you

i've been carrying secrets
closer than my skin
and all the secrets
won't let you in

my secrets, your secrets
his secret, hers
sure, i can keep mine
but i don't want yours

take them away,
i don't want them because they
mean lies and lying and
i'm tired of lying awake

i've been carrying secrets
closer than my skin
all those secrets
... i'll still keep them in
