Hide and Seek

Hide and Seek

A Poem by Sarah Elizabeth

Close my eyes and count to ten,
I wish I could start over again.
You go run and hide in your place,
I wish I could choose to find or erase.
One, two...you hide in the café
Back where I met you on her birthday.
Three, four...you push and shove
to stay in my life and win my love.
Five, six...it lasts over a year
before I see there's no place for you here.
Seven, eight...you lose your mind;
all of a sudden her hands are tied.
Nine, ten...all innocence is gone,
but the game had only just begun.
Ready or not, here I come.
Open my eyes to see that you're gone,
I almost feel safe as I try to forget,
but that's because I haven't found you yet.
