bruises

bruises

A Poem by carynolivia

You've left a mark on my heart
that matches so perfectly
the colour of its flesh
that I can't tell
if you've hit the whole thing
or just a tiny corner.

Guess I'll just have to wait for it to swell
and blacken
though something tells me that won't happen.

I love the opening stanza, I think you should continue it as in 3 stanzas that match the 1st? It's an amazing exploration of the love-psyche. It has descriptive psychological depth while being very human and somewhat feminine.

The idea of hitting a tiny corner of our heart, is potentially a very stunning thing, since they we are open to love as a bandit or little surprise, or ambush sort of thing! It makes me laugh but you are clearly very sweet to ponder so.

This poem is as powerful as it is compact. The image of a heart literally bruising, and the confusion of whether the bruiser has hit a piece of the heart or the entire thing, adds to heartache. Very well done.
