When The Dog Wails

When The Dog Wails

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

we all have dark days

"
Even in our bleakest moments
nature brings a glint of bright.
By the river, I remember
how my darkness captured light.

I saw diamonds dance on water
as the sun broke through to play,
I recall my burden lighten
on a dreary soulless day.

All that glory there before me
for those minutes mesmerised,
as the sparkle on the surface
grew in strength, intensified.

I'm reminded when the dog wails,
when those blackest moments come,
nothing stays the same forever,
dig in deep and don't succumb.

Yess...I just feel like looking at the pond of my village river on which surface diamonds used to dance...however I haven't been there since years...
Your poems are anyway a lesson for me dear...no matter how any can fake being strong...but from his/her own soul the shreds of heart can't be hidden which was shattered at the dark days....And the glint of light does gives a look to us...hopefully dark days then goes away!!
Thanks for sharing this Christine...this was like I could relate with myself☺

Wow. I love this piece. Subtle, unforced rhyme. A positive coming out of the gloom, where humans dig in deep and soldier on.

C'MON ENGLAND, a chance for a bit of unity eh, instead of division. Has to be good.
This is brilliant & lyrical & encouraging in all the best ways! I love the title & the way you used this line in the poem. I love the description of finding light in darkness -- well crafted using the cloak of “nature” making your message straightforward but not a bit preachy. I love the way you use sensory excitement (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

What a lovely review Margie. I think I can safely say, you liked this poem. Smiling at you :))
"There is a crack in everything God has made" Ralph Waldo Emerson "That's how the light gets in" Leonard Cohen...and so darkness has no part in light and yet it dances upon the darkness in joy and triumph. And ever so often the light finds that crack through which it might penetrate and enlighten; whether the mind, heart or a crack in Venetian blind. I enjoyed this read and the hope encapsulated in the final stanza.

Makes me think of raining and the drops washing away the woes and sorrow of this land and human suffering. When a downpour comes. Gives hope for a new start.

Nice poem Chris. Sitting by a river or lake and seeing the beauty of life reflected on the surface. I never worry these days I just go along with nature and wallow in peace. I enjoyed your poem, my friend....Peter
