Lavender Fields

Lavender Fields

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

( breathe it all in and relax)

"
One day I'll walk in lavender,
hip deep amid the scented fields
where flower heads on long spiked stems
look up at me. A white hat shields

my sight from blazing sun. My skin
aglow from heat and on my arm
a wicker basket filled with blooms
will add to all the fragrant charm.

And all that I can see ahead,
a never ending purple sheet.
A sea, alive with working bees,
a royal carpet at my feet.

And who will be my company?
My dear I hope it will be you.
That you will see what I can see,
there's poetry in morning dew.

Your lyrical poem brings back all the reasons I’m in love with my humongous lavender bush that I can see from my computer spot here! I love puttering in the garden & catching a whiff. All the bees in the county are gathered around – it’s all exactly as you’ve penned it! *smile* Your ending sentiments are as sweet as each succulent drop of morning dew! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is a beautiful piece Christine. It harkens to Elysium; you brought me to the Elysian Fields and I didn't even have to die a Greek hero. The final line left me with such a good taste in my mouth. The entire work drips of poetic sensibilities. On the first read through I read it as a carpet of bees in the third stanza, I was horrified. I got it on the second read though.

Wonderful, such a delight to read this one Chris. A very bright write with a feel-good touch all along. Last stanza of your poem is my favourite. Beautiful lines at the end. Flowers, bees, nature scene and this one is more like a tribute to it through poetry. What more, if there's company that would be great way to share the nature treasures, sights - truly there's poetry in nature :) Thanks for sharing this write, enjoyed reading it.

You've done it again! You've shown me how easy it is to write descriptive poetry. I wish I could do the same.
