Endymion (Bluebell)

Endymion (Bluebell)

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

A very old poem, posted for Stella

"
Of all the flowers growing wild,
steadfast and constant year on year,
come take a walk in bluebell wood
in May as faithful blooms appear.

On shaded woodland floor they pose,
their bells lift up their heads on cue
as if to hail the spring once more,
a carpet breaks of boldest blue.

A sweetness tarries in the air,
resplendent sight for weary eyes,
don't pluck them cosy from their beds,
once picked each stem soon wilts and dies.

Endymion, so loved by Keats,
adored, admired it's said that he
chose his romantic hero's name
from visions of a bluebell sea.

I need a walk in a field of flowers. Coming week, some warm day in Michigan. Some flowers are already sneaking-up from the soil. I love the days of Spring. Spring, a Poet's muse. Thank you dear Chris for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Lovely poem, my wish is to have my ashes strewn about a bluebell grove in a forest, for all the reasons you mention above

Sometimes I think that you and I often walk the same flowery paths as the other. Blue bells are such a beautiful flower, in addition, blue happens to be my favorite color. Some time ago I wrote a tribute to them and posted it here. Perhaps you read it. Blue Bells, I think I wrote it a few years ago.

And you too my friend:)
Your love of nature, literature and your gentle heart that shares your love of all things through poetry is uniquely beautiful chris. The stanzas are as exquisite as the fairy flowers. Always a wonderful experience reading your poems.

I was drawn to this poem by the name of Keats' romantic hero, and boy did it deliver. Loved it!! Keats would have been proud! Well done!

You really are a master poet. The imagery here is bright blue and wonderful. I feel I have a lot to learn from you. These words are worth a thousand painted pictures. Let me know when you next write. I will be happy to read your work, and learn from you.

It's a beautiful image you paint, this forest floor of blue. A walk in Bluebell wood--now that sounds alluring! Don't know if they're the same flowers, but south Texas is a sea of bluebells about now. Many years ago, Ladybird Johnson had them (and other wildflowers) sewn all over the state. I love this poem, Christine.
