Love's Legacy

Love's Legacy

A Poem by Chris Shaw

How fleeting is the comet's flare
which trails ablaze through dark night sky?
How swiftly moves our time on earth
before we part with sad goodbyes?
And in-between, what does it mean?
It all concerns the seeds we sow.
For love and love alone ensures
the worth of all we choose to grow.

The theme of your poem is a "hobby horse" of mine. It's not only the fantasy of poets that love is the greatest force there is, but an actual reality.
The comet, its trail, and the seeds are all great metaphors. The tone of the poem is also one of its strengths - in my opinion. The quiet recognition of the brevity of life, and its acceptance are no small feats. However, we won't really disappear without a trace if we plant and grow with love.

Love is all that lasts and fairly enough that is what concerns and matters the most.
I love the last two lines "For love and love alone ensures the worth of all we choose to grow." It's surprising how it all adds up to one thing at last. LOVE
Beautiful piece💜

You're welcome.
A brief poem that says so much as brief
is life is on this mortal plane; beautifully
detailed with vivid descriptions so lovely
and artistically expressed..killer last lines

Nice work

Thank you Fran Marie, You are appreciated.
Yer a lang time deid! as they so prosaically say in these 'ere parts Chris. And what grows is who we truly are, writers thinking aloud and trying to make sense of this crazy life. I thought I figured it out once, but that would mean the answer to the question of life and its meaning is.... Frowned ups are weird! 😊
That's as far as I got, but it's on the tip of my tongue. 😝

Life truly is fleeting and the first line about the comet’s flare is so extremely accurate. It’s there one moment and breathtaking and gone the next and you hardly had time to enjoy it! But we should all learn to appreciate life a bit more, the good and the bad. I absolutely loved the last line. Love is absolutely the most precious thing in our life and you truly wrote a wonderful poem about it. There’s such a strength and wisdom in this piece. This poem has such a quiet strength to it that I really enjoyed.

I love how your imagery suggest: "what comes around, goes around" (an oft-used saying here to say what you sow is what you reap). The comet, infrequent as it may be, is cyclical, so this image reminds me of how the same-ole same-old will circle back around if we don't change our orbit (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I really liked this one for its splendid rhyming and deep philosophy. Yes, our time, even that of the most ancient of us, is like the brief flare of a shooting star in the night. And love, especially at its highest level, is the thing that makes it all worth it. This one might have been written by one of the Elizabethan poets.

Chris, you put so much in so little. You are so, so right, we are here for only a speck of time. If it weren't for love why should we even bother? Love is the key, it opens all the locks.
