Condemned

Condemned

A Poem by Chris Shaw

You who decapitate flowers,
new in bloom,
still gay after torture,
brutalised, broken and bleeding,
pleading for a quick death,
hand out all the mercy
of Medieval witch hunters.

Drown in the ducking stool,
women were declared innocent,
should they survive
then burnt alive at the stake.

Some things don't change much
do they?

I'm not sure why but this makes me feel very sad to my marrow in such few lines of text. The mechanism of the need to spread furtherance in misery thru cruelty is an ever present cause in some. I often think it is born out of a pure selfishness to propagate the feelings of misery & sadness to others as they themselves feel. Recently a mass shooting occurred here this person quit his job and shot 12 people that were his coworkers and i'm still racking my brain trying to understand his motivation and reasoning. this write was very succinct and poignant.

Automatically I was drawn into the piece with such a strong opening line. The hair on my arms still standing after the initial read of this powerful piece. You come down with the truth like a guillotine, decapitating the misogynistic ways of reality. Power to the ladies with a voice to speak up for the voiceless. Great write, so intelligent in your ability to articulate a message.

Witch hunts, so brutal. And still women suffer so many injustices.
I was just reading about Miley Cyrus being groped and all the support she got yet still, some had the gall to suggest she invited it for dressing sexy. We are still a long way from equality.

That is terrible.
Last evening I watched a DVD with a scenic train ride thru the south (where slavery once reigned), with details of museums that celebrate the old culture of slavery. That stopped me in my tracks. I hope it never stops stopping me in my tracks. Your poem delivers a similar sense of outrage at what humans can justify doing to other humans. Always something eye-opening from you! Ever since Man’s entry to Earth’s arena, man’s injustices towards fellow man and all nature have been at times cruel and without mercy and done in such a narrow minded way. Another strong message Chris.

New world, old world. Little does change. I remember the women revolution in the seventies. It is sad, new world fell backward. We must watch our world, if we don't. Freedom and equality shall be forgotten. Your words honest, true and needed. Thank you dear Chris for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Some things like the violent streak in human nature hasn't changed through ages.
The strength of your objection towards cruelty and wickedness is strong and clear in your luminous poem, Chris . It is hard to comprehend violence towards any living form.
