Ghost Buster

Ghost Buster

A Poem by Chris Shaw

This eerie silence will not last
as dawn brings milky smoke-like mist
to haunt our river, hide the view.
A host of ghosts are sweeping through.
Then moments later sol glows gold
the phantoms rise in upward lift.
Before my eyes the scene has changed,
the bank appears now clothed in green,
tall trees emerge to change the scene
and all bodes well, a clear new day.

And the new day emerges with the golden sol breaking free the morning mist. Yes, the smoky mist covering everything with its white clothing and the eerie silence perfectly describes a ghostly ambience but as soon as the golden rays embraces the earth they (ghosts:)) disappears as sun starts to reign the day. The living beings also starts their activity leaving the laziness ghost behind.

How effortlessly you portray the starting of a new day.... Awesome

You are very good at finding isolated moments and elucidating their significance. This offering depicts a brief scene on a river at dawn, with rising mists making a brief, ghostlike appearance before the sun evaporates them, leaving a clearer view of that which they concealed. We can relish the delicate, zenlike
scene for what it is, or see it as a metaphor for physical life, ever changing, hiding another reality behind it. Very nicely done.

Oh how just a few hours can change our perspective. Wonderfully wispy, haunting and yes, hopeful as the mists give way to blue skies!

What a well written descriptive piece of darkness and the fears we meet, while knowing the sunrise will be. I like this work very much Christine

I LOVE THIS! Great imagery . . . I was seeing the wispy apparitions so clearly! This reminds me of how the ocean fog comes over the high mountains & spills down the ridges above me. I never thought to equate the fog with ghosts, even tho I love ghost tales. Your word-painted scene is very much ALIVE! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Many a morning started like this on our canoe trips in Northern Ontario. Grey rock...black water...mist swirling off the water...a warming fire and a hot cup of coffee to start the day...the mist rising slowly to reveal green forests...a moose and her calf grazing along the other bank.

Thanks taking me back, Chris.
