A Gong For A Wrong

A Gong For A Wrong

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

A little rant from a tree lover.

"
Congratulations to our local council,
who have exceeded themselves by far.
I award a shiny gold star for your
level of sheer incompetence.

You have to be pretty dense I think
to destroy eight hundred saplings
without a thought, planted by
volunteers of a woodland trust.

Try as I must, I can't contemplate
how anyone could chop down
a flucking forest, each little tree
of five years standing.

In one almighty swoop, managing
to wipe out the equivalent of four
thousand years of tree growth
while doing routine clearance.

That has to be one of the best acts
of vandalism I have come across,
knocks spots of grafitti on the odd
wall or two which can be erased.

A case of they couldn't see the trees
for the nettles they were attempting to weed, so much for routine parks
maintenance.

Well, as you know Chris, as someone who has more than a passing acquaintance with the forrestry commission, i can very much flucking believe their levels of incompetence and beauroc... Bewroc... arse over tit levels of rules for rules sake... Or perhaps its just having to justify their own existence by thinking out loud, way too loudly, whilst others are present, whose own incompetence they dont want known, so they just agree with the flucking idiot, making more flucking idiots and less sense.
Add the woodland trust into the mix and now you have a flock of flucks.
I better shut up now, my boss may be reading this 😀

I would agree that your council sounds incompetent, but this is a Facebook post with line breaks not a poem.

The destruction of trees is never a rewarding venture. Yet, we build fires and houses in which to build our fires and furniture to sit upon while we watch the fires burn, all from trees.

They will no doubt be complaining about the land flooding soon then.
As i understand it if someone wants chop down a tree on their property they have to get permission these days and agree to plant another tree somewhere else or in a different part of the garden .

This is a well-justified & crystal clear rant. We are all all-in! You have shown this to be the mind-boggling clusterfuck that it really is, without even going ballistic or nasty. I admire you that pristine indignation. I think we could use more of this over here, where mutual mud-slinging never leaves an opening for lessons learned. I love how you include so much detail, like who planted the trees & the total tree growth having been blasted off. It's utterly sickening. The more specific such a critical piece tells the story, the more outraged it makes us feel (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I take it this heartbreaking act was performed by a government agency.
Someday--hopefully--all will learn that government is neither reason nor competence, it is force!
Whomever the destroyer was, here, Christine, you related the atrocity powerfully and with poetic eloquence.

You're welcome. We all need to rant.
These will be the same incompetent idiots who'll spend thousands to plant more trees to offset the weather (sorry, can't call it "climate change").
Alas stupidity knows no bounds.

Good rant Chris.

Your poetic voice is strong and resonates within the reader here, Chris. The sheer disappointment and dismay comes through. Such carelessness is so criminal, especially when a global ecological crisis is looming in our face and trees are so vital to earth’s sustenance. You make your point with great eloquence and with the right amount of force. It all comes through beautifully. Kudos!
