She said, He said

She said, He said

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Blame it on tv

"
i watched in total awe
as ice crystals grew in
fine slow motion footage

bare branches became
draped in winter filigree
a haunting breathless beauty

i gasped at this sheer loveliness
as pristine white layers disguised
dark stark fingers of bark

beckoning boney digits
a fantasy fairy land of coldness
intricate, delicate, perfection

"how can you convey in words
such creation", says i and he replied
without the blink of an eye

without hesitation, he said
with his own brand of sincerity
"don't ask, it all looks friggin freezing"

I had to laugh at the ending of this one, Chris. Winter can be beautiful to watch. The ice forms patterns on the windows and the icicles hang from the branches...truth is though, I would prefer to watch it in a painting because, yes, it is "friggin freezing!: LOL Good one, Chris. Lydi**

Ah, the end gave me a smile and chuckle, thank you for that. I really like the inviting way you limned your imagery here as if I could see your finger pointing as you say, "Loo, you see". You always educated me on a word, filigree, thank you for that as well. Wonderfully explained and expressed poetry, Christine. tyfs

Haha, I'll agree with him. I grew up with cold winters and got out when I could, to 26°N. Sure, all that winter wonderland is lovely on the TV, but its "friggin freezing". Thanks for sharing this funny one.

I am glad the Winter's blues are gone dear Chris. I need the warm days and the sun upon my face. I do understand this poem. Your home and Michigan. Winter can be nasty. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

I smiled reading this beautiful poem. What an eye to describe beauty when it is freezing cold..... But not everyone has that romantic eye:).... Some are plainly straight in their approach. It's a very good humerous write....

Ha ha, Chris. Not everyone has your poets eye. It is a gift like art or music. Your description of the winter wonderland is fine but I guess you had in mind other fish to fry.
Or perhaps he was winding you up.
Cheers,
Alan
Just to make you jealous we've just taken the ferry across to Tangier for some winter sun.

Interesting how people view the cold, freeze, colorless season; you make it vivid with your exquisite imagery, the “ sheer loveliness” , but I also like the end where he said don’t bother me “it’s friggin freezing”! Two exact opposites. Lovely poem Christine. Best,Betty

Winter can be dangerous
cold bitter brittle and unforgiving
but yet she can be beautiful
and childlike for us all if we're
safe in her slopes and out in
her beautiful cold weather.

a haunting breathless beauty

I love everything about your poem Chris, your beautiful imagery and these lines are my favourite: “ beckoning bonnie digits, a fantasy fairy land of coldness , intricate
delicate perfection” sounds blissful and dreamy . I also like he said.. “ with his own
brand of sincerity, don’t ask it
all looks friggin freezing . Made me laugh that did lol
