Billy The Brute

The storm's messing with my muse causing trouble :)

When he read a bedtime story
it was Dad who forewarned me,
showing with assorted pictures
in bright paintbox colours,
how three pink little piggies
had to run for cover at top speed
because the big bad sharp toothed wolf,
hungry for succulent tender flesh
had huffed and puffed until he blew
the guts out of their cosy home.

This morning I discovered Billy,
yes Billy wind without the help of a wolf
who howled his heart out yesterday,
had left our roof firmly on its shoulders
but blown all the white petalled skirts
clean off my pretty cyclamen plants
hiding in a sheltered garden spot,
leaving them naked and shivering
in quiet shame.

Well, at least it blew the leaves of the line, not that it made any difference, I was still an hour plus late for work this morning. I wonder how we'd cope in the kind of storms other less fortunate countries suffer through. Not ever so well I imagine.

And don't fret about the cyclamen, we all know the amazing recovery powers of nature. :)

Our trains sadly don"t have a good record when it comes to timing. True, at least the leaves were blown away, so leaves on the line couldn't be used as an excuse. Trees on the line, more serious. We don't cope well with our inclement weather as a nation do we? Elsewhere they appear far more prepared. Look at China building a 1000 bed hospital in ten days. Makes us look pretty feeble. Ah the garden plants, yes they will pull through. Thanks for reading, your visit appreciated.

So the storm was named Billy? Such a sweet name for a brute! The personification here is wonderful....the thought of plants being naked and cold...wow! Glad your roof made it through the storm. The three little pigs...haven't thought of that since my granddaughters were little. Very well written, Chris. I hope Billy and friends of his never come your way again.

I don't believe you need the word 'succulent'. It gets in the way of the vivid clarity that 'tender' already provided. Besides, the word 'hungry' already implies the idea of what the wolf thinks of that tender flesh.

This is the one aspect of not living on the coast that I am not jealous of:/ It seems that the weather is doing double diligence in the disruptive department as the remaining ice caps are melting at such a rapid rate upsetting the balance of the calmer nature of our youths:( So sorry to hear about your roof and garden frenzy dear Chris hope everyone is okay over there:)

Scary, even as an adult, hearing the huffs and puffs from under the blankets, hoping that it runs out of steam before those protective walls quake and crumble.
Now rewind and wonder how on earth we ever made it through childhood alive.
Fairy tales and the Grimm's have a lot to answer for, but who do we blame for adult us hiding 'neath the sheets? 😀

Yes as a child I used to hide under the covers whenever I was scared. Now I stay awake. I want to make sure if the chimney comes through the ceiling, I'm not sleeping :) You know those fairytales were so violent. When my Dad read the red shoes to me I had nightmares for months. Kept dreaming the woodcutter was going to chop my feet off if I stopped dancing :)) Hope Ciara is leaving you alone.

Well, people think it was a glass slipper, but that was a mistranslation of ver, which isnt glass, but squirrel fur. She was wearing a squirrel on her foot. And yes, not everyone ends up with both feet 😀
