Quest For Perfection

Quest For Perfection

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(make your mind up)

"
not content with the quickest of fixes
an application of pretty pink lipstick
or a coat or two of slick nail polish

some dames invest far further
maxing out their shocked credit cards
to purchase a full kissable pout

or heavily defined threaded eyebrows
permanent dark tinted long eye lashes
a tattoo or two inked on body parts

not to mention bleaching of teeth
gleaming brighter than virgin snow
to flash winter white at all and sundry

a botox shot can hide laughter lines
can fill in the odd imperfections
or braver still consult a plastic surgeon

who will enhance those curvaceous parts
add emphasis and a few cup sizes to
those twin peaks filled with silicon gel

as derrieres are currently in fashion
plump up those plummy cushions
of fleshy non dimpled soft seating

what happened to natural beauty
seems it's died a dreadful death
takes time and money to be fake

I haven't even mentioned tanning
or hair extensions yet and I bet
I've missed a few others

and it cost not one red cent to be natural...and that is the best beauty of them all....
many hide behind a facade....a fake smile, a fake look because they don't trust that their real one will be good enough....
if only we could love ourselves enough to just present the truth.

your 2nd last para says it all.
some people binge on what i call 'body retrofits'. i don't know what they actually see when they look in the mirror. i think those lip fillers are just the absolute worst.

Have to agree the pout trout look does nothing for a woman's looks at all. Thank you so much for you.. read more
yes youve missed a few others

in an attempt to have a light skin
babes have gone to the extent of mixing oils
using it on their bodies
and as a result

red red patches in some parts of skin which obviously add a few more years to that babes years

I spent a few dollars trying to change my hairline and the profile of my belly. I now notice quite a difference but I’m not very happy with the new look. :)

Wow! You just tore into a muti-billion dollar (pound) industry my fair lady!! How did women (and some men) get to such a point!!?? Even in the ad below your poem someone wants you to worry over sagging jowls!!! Why are so many so concerned they don't have a perfect body. Over here huge amounts of money are spent on memberships to "fitness" centers. God help us get back to matters that really count!!!! Sorry for the rant. A great poem Chris . . . that will fall on many deaf ears.

"Takes time and money to be fake" is among the sharpest and truest statements in your poem, Chris. And, what a waste. In the US, I believe this is the largely the result of social media and Hollywood. Both have created a false reality, an imagined normalcy that many seek. Sadly, we've lost ourselves and an appreciation for natural beauty and its simplicity, which you've expressed so well here.

You’re welcome, Chris.
This is so sadly true - well I for one can proudly boast that no Botox, silicon, ink or any such treatments have ever been experimented with on this body lol - however I do own a tube or two of mascara haha! Oh and a curling iron ;)

So true, the beauty of simplicity has been taken over by mask & fillers...
Great to see some still live by simplicity with grace. Like they say "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"

fully kissable pouts. Yup, seen that many a time. Makes 'em look like trouts, and nowadays there are lots of blokes playing the same stupid game.

Au naturel does it for me every time. Eye of the beholder and all that.

All good with me. Will be better still when spring arrives :)
Perfect lies within, anyone with half a brain knows that; but far too many of our species are more concerned with outward appearance, than inner goodness.

Greek physician, Galen (129-216 AD), wrote this as part of his teachings.

The object of the cosmetic part of medicine is to produce an enhancement of beauty, while the object of the decorative part is to preserve everything natural in the body that is naturally accompanied by beauty. The appearance of the head suffering from alopecia is ugly, as it is with the eyes when the eyelashes and the hairs of the eyebrows fall out; and these hairs contribute not only to beauty but much more to health of the parts…But to make the colour of the face whiter by means of drugs, or redder, or the hair of the head curly, or yellow, or black, or to make it much longer, as is done, and the operations like these, belong to the depravity of cosmetics and not to the healing art.

Some things never change, do they. :))

Beccy.
