A Solitary Wayward Leaf

A Solitary Wayward Leaf

A Poem by Chris Shaw

A leaf in happy morning mood
kept active by a wilful gust
that saw it cartwheel quick, quick, slow.,
which knocked the winter rust off me.
My toes felt lifted, so inspired
I gathered pace and took a chance.
I chased it down a country lane
to join it in its crazy dance.

i love this...the willingness to run with abandon in life...to take risks. the wind being a whim...
and i found it interesting that in reading the first few lines i not only envisioned, but hoped for the ending...that the speaker would be dancing with the leaf...
what great partners they make.

Thanks gram. A bit of light hearted whimsy. Chasing leaves, ..... if only.
Your poem shows just the beginning of this dance, but it conjures up so much more. I see this leaf finding a stream & floating along as the narrator follows, occasionally nudging with a stick if her leaf gets stuck on some rock. This is a profound analogy for our times . . . some of us follow the leaf's natural dance . . . others follow whatever is the current panic or trend or fomenting madness! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thanks Margie. Happy to dance with the leaf, but not one to follow the sheep blindly :)) Hope all is.. read more
Very nice. I wish I could be as free-spirited and could join you in the dance with the dry leaves.

I’ve had the fun of trying to catch runaway papers before and came to the conclusion that ‘old man wind’ was just having fun with me :)

Oh I can’t wait to knock the winter rust off me - just the tiniest inkling of the coming Spring is sure to set me gallivanting down that country road with careless abandon - this one made me smile :)
