Midnight Hours

Midnight Hours

A Poem by Chris Shaw

in the wicked witching hour
every winking twinkling star
came out of its hiding place
.
as roller blind shifted position
to reveal a crystal clear expanse
of silky dark sequinned sky glow
.
miles of tiny shiny spangles
a silent seranding song from
the heavenly bodies above
.
not a wisp of cloud in sight
away from the city lights where
pollutions's veiled fog hovers
.
every single one pristine
polished to gleaming perfection
in each direction you cared to look
.
no finer sight will you see
than the glory of galaxies afar
embracing our blue planet
.

The witching hour, which I suppose to be midnight, isn't nearly as scary as "dead time", which is generally deemed from 3 to 4 a.m., to me. Some sketchy stuff goes on in the wee hours of the morning. I don't really believe in ghosts but I've had some strange experiences with things I would consider "not normal". But this poem wasn't frightening at all despite the reference. In fact, it was quite beautiful, I love to stargaze and I enjoyed the read.

You paint a beautiful scene. One of the reasons I love to go to the shore in the evening is to take in the beautiful afforded by the million stars lighting the heavens. So much more beautiful without the glare of city lights. Though I love the moon, on those nights when it's not there the stars seem to shine more brightly.

Starry starry night! When my hubby and I are on a cruise, we love to walk the deck of the ship at night to view the black velvet and the sparkles. There is nothing quite like it. Your description of the night sky is exquisite, Chris. Lydi**

Your first sentence drew me. The beauty of the night sky is full of wonder within all the beauty it holds. Beautifully expressed.

Well, I was going to wax lyrical about our little blue/green pebble and our place amongs all those twinkles, reminding me how strange it is that we cannot see the planet we stand on, but can see other arms of the milky way.... But then you mentioned Galaxies and reminded me I had a galaxy caramel in the fridge..... So byee. 😀
A lovely write Chris, wandering through your thoughts at such a clear sight. Makes me feel bad for people in cities though, pollution, light and others, blocking out a view better than anything thats on the box.

Yes, the night sky is something i enjoy taking the time to gaze upon when I have a quiet moment in the evening. Sometimes there is just too much cloud or pollution obstructing the view for full appreciation. That is a reflection of life, in some ways. There is always something blocking the clarity in front of our eyes. I sure hope you enjoyed the scenery, Christine. Your words certainly tell us you did.

Lovely , vivid images in this nighttime piece...so vivid I could see the brilliant spectacle in the sky...sequined shiny particles floating in a black sky. Nice flow to these perfect words. Best, Betty

This is for me like holy prayer of insomniac who decide to watch night skies. Simple delicate observation filled with empathy for universe and earth's nature. Echoing of wisdom what we sometimes forget to hear. Gentle reminder we have to be more friendly at place where were created. Thanks for sharing such wide expanding observation .
