Thought Flight

Thought Flight

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(you can choose your friends, but you can't choose your... and thank goodness for metaphors.)

"
i want to go to Anstey's cove
though not when storm
clouds gather grey
i want to go to Anstey's cove
to purge some memories
set them free

i can not go when waves are high
that rise in swell to crash the
beach, instead i'll wait till
calm sets in so rollers
anger's out of reach

tis finer on a pink sky morn
when dawn glows layered lavender
when shadows slowly disappear
with kinder hopes for him and her

i'll put those thoughts in a
paper boat, then cast them out
to float at sea, without concern
for what comes next as long
as they're away from me

as long as they're away from me
to drift upon the open waves
where many other souls have found
a sea bed makes a perfect
grave

I agree dear Chris. The sea can take and remind us. Treat her as a friend. I enjoyed the poem. I love the sea and I am far away from both Atlantic and the Pacific. I liked the tale and the way you used the description. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry for the sea.

Nicely expressed poem. I could hear your voice through your written words very clearly.

I now have an image of you writing your worries and problems away, venting frustrations and origamiating them into paper boats to sail away into the distance, as you hit the throttle in the other direction in case they come back.
A sailboat is a more poetic mode of transport, but I chose to picture you throttling a jetski, weaving through choppy waters, laughing and smiling as you flip over waves, somersaulting your cares away.
I know this took a different path from your words, but once I thunk it, couldn't be unthunk 😀

this is masterful...I cannot write like this...you have such intricate rhyme patterns...that
fit into each other like perfect swells.

Sounds like you have my neighbours. I would love to put them in a paper boat and send them to a watery grave. But tis good advice to take that breath and let the storm calm before taking action. Nice well written piece as always Chris
