A Poem by Chris Shaw

storm's marauding afterlife
leaves eyes of sunrise squinting
.
brooding cloud formations
hang in black curtain heaviness
.
lined with a sliver of silver hem
gleaming with uncertain promise
.
hurled through rough salty waters
from ocean's dark disturbed bed
.
tossed in a surge of soapy foam
angriest of roller-coasters ride in
.
fossils flung far in shifting swell
beached upon dampened sand
.
naked on soft islands surrounded
by wet glistening shingle sharps
.
ammonites bellemnites picked
by fingers clinging to jurassic finds
.

I felt like I was there with you dear Chris, after the storm, looking for treasures.... Something I just love to do.
Rained heavily here today but now it is sunny....and we are in June... Oh those poor vacationers... not been great here the past two weeks...
We of course love it... Rain...means not as much watering...

AS one finds treasures in your poetry, you found treasures in nature. I'm fascinated by fossils and the time , manner of formation. They can tell us a lot.
I like those beach walks and discovery.

You too. You are welcome .
Sunrise squinting and silver linings to clouds.. a fine time to go searching for fossils. The treasures you find will be worth more because you found them yourself. Loved the alliteration and the imagery in this one. I realize I just wished you a Happy Thanksgiving and I doubt you celebrate it. Sorry! Lydi****

Hi Chris, well, I am a dumbbell and I was lost, to begin with. Had to get my head straight and then the piece just flowed. As always, you hold the interest of this reader from beginning to end. I always love a good storm, I am strange that way, so your opening held me spellbound. What can come after a storm is wondrous in itself. Yes, many things can be found on our Jurrasic shores. An outstanding write, Chris. Have a wonderful Saturday. Hugs always....Mike.

Wow Chris this write is deep and dynamic, just the title made me think even the words open doors in what I'm reading do I understand what I see in life we fear death but can we take this in what we believe, the sun so powerful we can't bare to look at but we enjoy its warmth. And my favorite part, life is a roller coaster ride. Thank you for sharing. This is what I saw, excellent write.

Hey Chris!

Having just woken up, it took me a while to catch on to the style and strategy of the poem-- no articles, no "I's"-- I can dig it. I read it several times on repeat, and each time I could appreciate and applaud what you've done. Even better, I learned a few new science words. Best of all, I found a belemnite on Etsy for only $2,280!! So what if I'll have to eat cat food for three months? No one's gonna accuse this guy of being an uncultured dummy. Thanks, Chris!!

I love storms and finding fossils. A very atmospheric poem... Excuse the pun. The "oceans dark disturbed bed" I found particularly evoking. Well done.

Though I've never been to the UK this poem gives me the vibe of a rainy coast and the beautiful treasures within it.
