All We Have Become

All We Have Become

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

( dark, yes dark)

"
we reside in threatening times
where spores of hate mutate
to spread wide their evil eye

where song birds choke on smoke
black acrid menacing a mean trail
drifting into oblivion's winding path

rubble piles high in cities bombed
blasted to kingdom come children
half starved oozing weeping skin

rancid breath the reaper sweeps in
for deaths deadliest destruction
those remaining bleeding in pain

the heart of humanity has gone
it settles down with a crying sun
as this global glum world unfurls

discharging its misery for all to see
in the media on tv plastered, our
disaster of all we have become

I think it is easy to forget the light is there. I also think it is easy for humanity to forget that we are all in this together. It starts with self, but in these times, that starting with self must be damned dynamic to shake those sleeping awake to smell the roses, see the sun rise, feel it's shine and remember each moment is a miracle, each experience a blessing. Your words are strong, the times we live in reflect that.

When things become so horrid that we must shy away from the news to almost just maintain mental stability. We are lucky if we dodge a lot of these nightmares.. Thank you for these harsh but important words.

The world isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. It can be a very dark twisted place with horrors that we can’t even fathom.

Very true. Good news certainly doesn't sell newspapers.
This poem brings the image of war. War brings death and destruction. The heart of humanity is really gone. The rubble and the debris bear witness to that. Nice composition Chris.

“deaths deadliest destruction“ magnificent Alliteration!

I admire how you captured the idea of how humanity is destroyed by humans themselves. The details are so eye-capturing.

Spot on Chris, and you having even mentioned the C word. We ARE all going to die and know we not the day of the means. The climate crisis is upon us. Earths sixth extinction event is upon us.
Keep your chin up!

Yes, it's dark... There was unavoidable darkness when civilization progressed and some are man made... Intentionally. And as if it was not the end... Now this pandemic menace! I stopped viewing news or social media nowadays... They are delivering only some horrible news.... We need more and more light, light of optimism to overcome this gloom. Very timely write and as usual well penned

I love it. These above lines really spoke to me. Are we becoming our own disaster, and did we have the potential to be so much more?
