All We Have Become

All We Have Become

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

( dark, yes dark)

"
we reside in threatening times
where spores of hate mutate
to spread wide their evil eye

where song birds choke on smoke
black acrid menacing a mean trail
drifting into oblivion's winding path

rubble piles high in cities bombed
blasted to kingdom come children
half starved oozing weeping skin

rancid breath the reaper sweeps in
for deaths deadliest destruction
those remaining bleeding in pain

the heart of humanity has gone
it settles down with a crying sun
as this global glum world unfurls

discharging its misery for all to see
in the media on tv plastered, our
disaster of all we have become

I think it is easy to forget the light is there. I also think it is easy for humanity to forget that we are all in this together. It starts with self, but in these times, that starting with self must be damned dynamic to shake those sleeping awake to smell the roses, see the sun rise, feel it's shine and remember each moment is a miracle, each experience a blessing. Your words are strong, the times we live in reflect that.

Much much love X

As I have written in my reply to your comment looking into the darkness is the only way to healing. The agony in this reflective poem purges the emotional wounds of all of us. Beautiful work here.

seems we have become
a world that's gone
quite mad; dog eat dog
mentality of what's mine
is mine and what's yours
is mine also ..greed /hate
and whatever else to throw
at one another in this mess
mankind has wrought

Well written Chris

Hello, Christine! :)
We do terrible things to each other, and every bit of it for theft and prophet or retaliation. Ya, and we get to watch war highlights on TV, between commercials. Its disgusting. Thanks for sharing.

You would think the coronavirus would make the world more kinder? It didn't dear Chris.

I understand the above lines. Greed and wealth is leading us to a hell-bound ending. I pray we learn to get along. What will we leave for the children? Hello from Michigan and thank you for sharing your amazing words and thoughts.

And alas, the fact is that we are no worse those who came before , and alas we are no better. What we are is more efficient, skilled in evil thoughts and deeds, well practiced, you know?

Splendid work. I like how this reflects on the media and the problems with this modern society as everyone wants to be perfect or appear on the spotlight. Despite all this it shows how some people want to achieve all this through destructive choices.
