I sang this song hundreds of times, starting with one of my first guitar lessons in 6th grade, but I had not thought about these sentiments as being a message about wartime. I'd always thought of it as the ever-growing divide between rich & poor. But I love your interpretation & how it's expressed in vivid imagery (((HUGS)))

dear Chris... we have lost so many for our Freedom.
Joan Baez sang your Title... I was younger at the time,
but now I realize what sacrifice was made, and the Price we paid.
If only our present Leaders could find their Heart and Soul...
It would be the sweetest story ever told. Amen... Pat

Lovely Haiku Chris; your words are stunning, images galore, but very sad, as the poppies breathe their last… as we all will at some time. But those whose blood is shed are the ones we shed tears for….at this moment.

Chris - every time I read the word "poppies" I immediately remember the poem "In Flanders' Field.' Makes one wonder, will we, can we ever learn? "To you from failing hands, we throw the torch. Be it yours to hold on high, for you break faith with those who die, we shall not rest, though poppies grow in Flanders' Field.
Take care - Dave
