Sundown and Wind Farms

Sundown and Wind Farms

A Poem by Chris Shaw

far from finding
wind farms an eyesore
they stay a fascination as
offshore turbines salute
a fast dimming sky

from Roan beach
carbon fibre blades rotate
as moderate winds
aid graceful clockwise
turning

row on row they stand
embracing air
as though a surgeon's knife
sliced through sky's heart
rip roaring red no sutures
as crimson clots appear

they spread it bleeds
it plasters heaven's highway
reflected in evening's dark
salty waters
skyscape slaughter

as golden sol
slips slowly beyond
horizon's black ribbon line
while hours pass on by
building clean energy

What a great image blended with such poetic words.
"as though a surgeon's knife
sliced through sky's heart
rip roaring red no sutures
as crimson clots appear"
Then the whole next stanza
"they spread it bleeds
it plasters heaven's highway
reflected in evening's dark
salty waters
skyscape slaughter"
Great lines Chris

I also find wind farms to be beautiful for many reasons, but you've summed it up so lyrically. Love when you blend imagery with practicality (((HUGS)))

I've always appreciated wind farms. I don't understand why they are seen as "eyesores."

It's an interesting creative choice that here and in your other work you refer to the sun as "sol." It is a very obscure term, mostly familiar to people who study astronomy or maybe Latin. Perhaps you are trying to emphasize that our sun is something to be recognized and not taken for granted, or that it is one star among many? Just my guess. :)

A beautiful description Chris, of magnificent, powerful structures. Where I sail, is on a very windy dam about 60 kms from where I live. Towering over the waters are huge wind towers, standing like sentinels watching us, keeping us safe. A nice read.

dearest Chris... modern technology will save us as time goes by.
The Sky moans with thunder and lightening strikes... Wind turbines give us the energy we need.
We are having close encounters with Wind and Rain...
as Thunder rolls through the night.
We are blessed with your poetry. gently, Pat

You always add so beautiful personification to the nature Chris. I really like reading your poems, they make me feel connected to the things even if I don't know much about them. I dig the way you described the farms drowning in sunshine as if I am visiting one here (although I have never been to any being a localite girl).

Anu

Very lovely of of you to pen down a description of a farm and how it feels in your own words. Also the wind turbines is something i can't miss.

No problem
I like the observations expressed here. I've been where the turbines turn and found them quite fascinating. Some of the greater farms use them for irrigation as well as generation of electricity. Harnessing the natural elements of wind and sun is certainly preferred to the destruction reeked on nature by carbon fuels. Thank you for the observations, lovingly expressed. Bless.

My pleasure, entirely. F.
Fabulously written as always. I really liked the use of various colors and the comparisons used are really nice especially in this portion-

sliced through sky's heart
rip roaring red no sutures
as crimson clots appear "

Hi I'm Rik, Love your thoughtful word paint and how you ride the polar facet of analogy from reality to metaphor and back so smoothly and effortlessly weave them. I wasn't looking for pleasure but your poem b brought a smile, so thank you! :-)
