Aspects Of Light

Aspects Of Light

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Spontaneous poetry

"
let there always
always be
this glare from sunlight
on the sea
that lifts all spirits
in distress
that calms and soothes
all restlessness
to sprinkle sparkle
where the mood
of brooding clouds
have done their best
to hamper thoughts
of happiness
to sink the soul
beneath the waves
into the ocean's
darkest caves

Chris - surely in another life you had to have been a person of the sea. You manage to see into the depths of the ocean and bring forth the light that is often hidden there. For all, its roughness and sometimes rage the sea with sunlight shining is the essence of tranquility and a place I love to be. This is beautifully done.
Take care - Dave

An uplifting piece to start the day out with some positivity and thankfulness! Poems like these often remind me to be grateful for our earth and all the colors and lights that it creates. I love the way you evoke emotions through different pieces of the planet. Caves, light, ocean, water. It's comforting to know, in some way, nature will always be around.

This is one I simply had to comment on. I don't think I've seen a better description of my thoughts on light or a better use of words about light. The contact between light and emotion is clear and sparkling here.

Was my pleasure and you are welcome dear Chris.
Excellent painterly meditation on the qualities of light and shade Chris, and as ever your Works on the Sea are particularly effective and moving.

"Nature always wears the colors of the spirit" - Emerson.
I like the association between inner feelings and outer aspects of light.
The former is always reflected in the latter.
The latter always influences the former.

dearest Chris... when we drive by the Rappahannock River
that runs through our town... with the sun sparkling on the
smiles of moving water... I realize that love moves in similar
ways that bring our emotions to the surface of humanity...
For awhile we cease to worry and Peace remains as we go
with the flow of Serenity. tenderly, Pat

Such a nice poem ...it is said that a single ray of light can eradicate the darkness that was prevailing for thousands of years in a dark cave! Such is the power of a ray of hope which can influence a brooding mind with positivity! We need more and more such light to guide us through gloomy darkness..

Interesting metaphors are seen in this one. The opening lines may be a nod to Genesis, as sunlight reflected off the sea is said to alleviate the somberness of "brooding clouds." Darkness is indeed lifted off the face of the deep, which probably means the subconscious mind. Dark thoughts can certainly cause the heart to sink into the black caves of the ocean's bottom. It is the light of higher consciousness that lifts us out of the depths; our task is only to look for it.

The ocean is such a shifting thing of mystery, a creature of hope and dark moods. I love how you use the simplicity of sunlight on water to craft a message of hope. We need more of that!
