A Text Too Many

A Text Too Many

A Poem by Chris Shaw

out of the blue
from the forests of time
a message was left
it would be good to talk
.
concisely short
a bullseye dart
pointed and poisoned
it grazed on my heart
.
nostalgia it carried
on a cool autumn breeze
i remembered how once
i was brought to my knees
.
so what do you want
from your fine Surrey garden
maybe the chablis is
seeking my pardon
.
on a warm afternoon
i could easily be swayed
except i recalled
i was dumped and betrayed
.
so i chose to ignore you
and didn't reply
yet not without wiping
a tear from each eye
.

Chris, I love this from you….an unhappy memory regurgitating from a poisonous note, something you wanted to forget was brought up again and it felled your heart….you really bring this to life with the words you chose to write…..no one wants to have a sting to their soul, written in a note to make you sad.
You really told him off Chris and now perhaps he will disappear from your life forever. Nice work!
Best to you, B.

Very, very nice. No one wants the hurt, much less to have the wound reopened. Made me think of a few moments of my own, articulated so much better than I ever could.
Thank you for writing this, so sorry for your pain.

Sometimes it’s too late to fix things, to ask for a reconciliation when in the past kindness and care were out of sight and heart, there is big difference between going separated ways with healthy attitude and even sometimes we need to grow alone and then meet again later, and the unnecessary pain someone may put us through not for growing nor for anything else…. and after we are healed boooooomb!…. suddenly they appear from no where like they did nothing!?!? do they feed on our strength and genuine feelings… yes it can be. I strongly feel You dear Chris, wise and good choice You made up there :>

Been there Chris, it tugs at your heartstrings but you know you mustn't go there again.
Leave the door closed, once opened you will trap your fingers again..

It’s a lovey piece you’ve written here. There’s no bitterness or lack of civility from the poet but there’s a sense of detaching oneself from a situation possibly to save oneself from more hurt. As for chablis, is it wine or a place. :)

This really hit for me. The type of poem that makes you feel past emotions from even a "forever ago" breakup. But boy is it bittersweet when you can finally no longer feel that pain, and be able to say your peace without having to wipe any tears. The imagery of flooding memories of a past lover, months of a healing process and finally, happiness, or at least "okayness". It's definitely a vivid and emotional piece of writing, and I really, really loved it. Thank you for making me feel things.

The pain of lost love, especially when they were, we thought, "the one." Remembering the devastation we felt helps to make it easier to not pardon the cruel we felt. It seems as though you are truly speaking from a broken heart, now on the mend.
