Vulnerable He Sleeps

Vulnerable He Sleeps

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(a bit of brevity which I hope says alot)

"
my left hand
spiders his heart

its palm a warm coverlet
of protection

gypsy read lines
content to rest

pledged to the beat
of silent music

my soul's food
sieving night time darkness

I am caught
in these moments

a fly free
to fly on my own volition

finding a home
under the kiss of moonlight

To me, this is a render love poem, using the spider's web as as a shroud of soft protection and care. It's warm, like a coverlet,. "this is my soul's food" his love for you...these are are moments we all want..."under the kiss of nightlight"....real or imagined, this is poetry at its best. Love this one!

I fear I often say too much .. one can beat an egg & a few other things besides, but one can not beat a decent bit of brevity .

An interesting write, Chris. I had to read it twice to begin to understand it, but the person whose heart is being protected could be either a child (my first impression) or a lover. Either way, a tender and expressive poem.

I used to lay my hand across the pup when he first arrived, was my way of giving him comfort, assurance. I still do it occasionally when sitting reading in the early morning as he lays on his back next to me.
Morning Christine, hope you are well. Bit of a downer after the defeat last night but hey ho :))
